Today you and I are going to learn how to relax and bring God’s word into our hearts. We are going to ask for peace and rest in our mind and spirit. Relaxation is therapeutic and when done with God’s word it helps us to allow it deeply in our spirit, vanishing the busyness of our lives.
First, we are going to learn how to relax our muscles through proper breathing, then we will meditate in His word, understanding how deep and high his love is for us. Meditation simply means focused thinking. And soon we will meditate on His unfailing love.
Close your eyes… Get in a comfortable position, in comfortable clothes, dim the lights and relax your body. Stretch your legs or lie down, make sure the temperature is pleasant and there will be no interruptions.
“Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts… and be thankful”, He tells us in Colossians and Proverbs says: “He who pursues righteousness and love finds life, prosperity and honor..”
Together we are going to learn how to breathe deeply, calming our body, allowing our body to replenish its oxygen.
Let your mind clear, and feel the calmness. As a thought comes, don’t fight it, just let it go Place one hand over your chest and the other on your stomach. Our breathing should be felt through our abdomen. Our chest should be still. As we breathe through our diaphragm we are deeply breathing, and replenishing our body with much needed oxygen Take a deep breath through your nose, all the way down to your stomach. Hold, and let go through your mouth…Again, breathe in through your nose, 1, 2,… breath out through your mouth… 2, 3, 4. We are purposely slowing our breathing down. One more time, breath in, 1, 2,… breathe out… 2, 3, 4 Continue breathing deeply, Relax your body, and listen to what the Lord has to say:
“Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.” ….and
“Know therefore that the LORD your God is God; He is the faithful God, keeping His covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love Him and keep His commands.”
Help me Lord to bring my whole being to love you, to understand that it is through my actions, that I am loving those around me, thus fulfilling your command.
Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good and know that His love will endure forever. Yes, I can trust in Your unfailing love and my heart rejoices in your salvation and I can rest assured that goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
Psalms says: “The eyes of the LORD are on those who fear him, on those whose hope, is in his unfailing love” Lord, please give me the faith to truly know that you love me, because faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. Let your face shine on me Your servant; save me in Your unfailing love, because Your love, reaches to the heavens and Your faithfulness to the skies. Lord, help me to be content. Help me to release my cares to you. And as I release my life to you, You say in Psalms “Because he loves me,” says the LORD, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name. Lord, I know that you forgive me because your Word says: “You are forgiving and good, compassionate and gracious and abounding in love to all who call to you.” And “as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him”.
Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. When we do this God promises “I love those who love me, and those who seek me find me.”
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking. It is not easily angered; it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes and always perseveres. Love never fails.
When I think of His love, I realize how sacrificial it is. His love endures forever. He sacrificed His life for mine. That is what true love does.
I want to love others the same way You love me Lord. Teach me to set myself aside for You, my pride, my anger, my failures. Teach me to accept Your love in my life, and teach me to accept others as they are and love them the way You want me to love them.
Love is patient. Help me Lord to slow down and really see the great beauty in Your creation. Remind me to take time to talk to the people in my life, and to understand their heart. To take a little extra time to walk in your beautiful creation, along side a gentle creek, under the shade of trees that You know by name. To sit in the sand on a beach, knowing that You have counted the number of grains on that shore. Help me to slow down my life.
Love is kind, and kindness begets kindness Lord. Produce in me the kindness that You have, that You are. I pray that the Holy Spirit in me will teach me how to be kind to others and also to myself. I want to learn how to be kind and compassionate to myself Lord, and to speak to myself as I would speak to others.
Love does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. Oh, Lord instill in me a new heart where envy and pride have no place. In my humanity Lord, help me to reach up, take hold of, and follow your example of pure and true love.
Love is not rude, it is not self-seeking. You are a gentle God and care for the well being of Your creation. That You died for us proves your selflessness and how much You care. Give me the desire and empower me to make the commitment to be more like you each day.
Love is not easily angered and it keeps no record of wrong. As far as the East is from the West, that is how far You have removed my transgressions from me. Yes, I am truly forgiven for everything I have done. Help me to forgive myself and those around me Lord.
Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. Your truth Lord will set me free, free to love, free to rejoice and free to thank you for your wonderful and pure, love.
Love always protects, love always trusts, love always hopes, love always perseveres. Love never fails, because God is Love.
As I release this day to you Lord, I invite you to increase my love for my family and my friends and others I need to love. Even those who make it difficult to love. It is your Spirit that ignites my desire to love. I will imitate your example, and rest in You. Psalm says: “The eyes of the Lord are on those who fear him, on those whose hope is in His unfailing Love”, Lord give me the faith to truly know that You love me, because faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. Let Your face shine on me Your servant, save me in Your unfailing love, because Your love reaches to the heavens, and Your faithfulness to the skies. Lord help me to be content, help me to release my cares to You. And as I release my life to You, You say in Psalms, “Because he loves me says the Lord, I will rescue him, I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.” Lord I know that You forgive me, because Your word says: “You are forgiving and good, compassionate and gracious, and abounding in love to all who call to You. And as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is His love for those who fear Him.” Let love and faithfulness never leave you, bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. When we do this, God promises: “I love those who love me, and those who seek me, find me.”
Lord, help me to see my days as you see them. I want see my family with the love that comes from Your Holy Spirit. When I wake tomorrow, help me to rise refreshed with joy for all the many good gifts you have given me, my family and those I love. As I move through my day, let me feel Your peace deep in my heart. To have all the patience I need, knowing that You are my refreshing river. As the sun rises, I know when I see that beautiful orange glow that it represents Your kindness toward me, that Your kindness is new every morning. Dear Lord, your goodness is overwhelming and I am ready to live my life faithfully loving You, with gentleness and self-control.
